A reminder to all our friends in the northern states that you might want to winterize your rain barrels! Here are the steps to get your rain barrel ready for winter:
- Drain your rain barrel completely. You can use the remaining water to tend to your indoor plants!
- Remove any debris from the the top of the barrel, inside the strainer basket or in the downspout.
- Remove the drainage and overflow hoses. You can store them in a safe and protected area like your garage or basement.
- Open the spigot at the bottom of the barrel and leave it open until spring. This allows any water collected to go straight into the ground.
